An inguinal hernia in infant is a hernia that occurs in the groin. the groin is the aera between your child's belly (abdomen) and thighs. 

An inguinal hernia occurs when part of your child's intestine pushes through an opening in their abdominal wall into the inguinal canal. 

 Causes

Failure of closure of the inguinal canal before birth that is patent Processus vaginalis . Pre maturity. Undescended testis. Family history. Cystic fibrosis.

 Symptoms & Signs --

 A bulge can be seen or felt. Aching pain in the area. Feeling of pressure. Pain and bulge that worsens with activity. 

Diagnosis- 

Good Clinical Examination.

Confirmation by ultrasound.

 Age of surgery-

Hernia once diagnosed and confirmed should be operated as early as possible. Age is no bar. 

 Treatment- 

Inguinal hernias usually require surgery to relieve discomfort and prevent serious complications like incarceration, obstruction and gangrene.
